“Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7
Giving gifts is one of my favorite parts about this time of year. With that said, we challenged our youth group to a Christmas gift challenge and now I’m passing it along to you. The challenge is for you to go Christmas shopping for someone that is NOT a part of your immediate family or circle of friends…
I know this is way out of a lot of people’s comfort zones, but pray about it! Ask God to show you someone who He’d want you to bless this Christmas.
(Ideas: your neighbor, teacher, someone elderly, your mailman, a barista at your fav. coffee shop, a foster child, someone in your church…)
It doesn’t have to be anything big. (It could be a card; you could even bake cookies) Gift giving is FUN!! It’s the best feeling in the world to know you’ve made someone feel happy and loved.
Questions: What’s the point of giving people gifts? How generous are you with your time, treasures and talents? Do you believe that it is truly more blessed to give than to receive? Think about a time in your life when you blessed someone with a gift (or your time)…. How did it make you feel? Think of a time where someone surprised you with a gift… Did you feel loved?
My prayer is for the Lord to make us more generous year round. I pray that we comprehend the simple truth that everything we have belongs to Him anyway.
“…Keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus, when he himself said: ‘There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.’” – Acts 20:35
