December 1st Devo
Can you believe it’s already December? Where did 2014 go?
“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.
We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth,
not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.” – Psalm 39:4-7
I pray today that we can all grasp this reality: our lives are fleeting.
God says our time on earth is, “but a breath.” It’s a drop in the ocean. It’s here today and gone tomorrow, and we’re not even guaranteed tomorrow. When I think about our short lives on earth compared to eternity, I’m motivated to live more intentionally and love more passionately.
Remember, our lives are made up of time. How are you spending yours? Is your hope in the Lord or in earthly treasures? What does it profit you to gain the whole world, yet lose your soul?
Are you loving God and loving the people He has made?? What did you do in the year 2014 that will matter for eternity?
There is only one thing that will stand the test of time and count in the end… it’s knowing Jesus and making Him known.
You’ve got one life on earth, what are you going to do with it?
