O Little Town of Bethlehem
Today I went to the Durham Christmas Festival with our lovely new neighbors. After visiting the craft fair, we attended “Carols For All” at the stunning Durham Cathedral. One of the carols we sang was “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
In the book of Micah, the prophet foretold that the Messiah would come from this small and seemingly unimportant town.
” But you, O Bethlehem are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past. The people of Israel will be abandoned to their enemies until the woman in labor gives birth… And he will stand to lead his flock with the LORD’s strength, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. Then his people will live there undisturbed, for he will be highly honored around the world. And he will be the source of peace… Micah 5:2–5 NLT
Isn’t it just like God to do his WORLD-CHANGING work in a little town, in the middle of the night, in an animal shelter? God chose to do something significant somewhere insignificant. The little place on the face of the earth is where God chose for the Savior of the world to be born!!
Isn’t it JUST like God to call, equip, empower and use YOU… to change the world?
Right now I live in North East England. It isn’t considered one of the most “desirable” places on earth to live. Neither is my home state of Oklahoma. In fact, they call my area of the country the “fly over states” because people tend to “fly over” us to get to California, New York or Florida. ha!
The point I’m trying to make here is that God wants to use us…. and nothing else matters. (Not our past, not where we were born, not our grade point average, not our social or economic status… etc)
God can do anything…anywhere… with anyone.
He wants to use me. He wants to use you. And He takes great pleasure in it!!
Are you a willing vessel? Ask God today why He has you where you are and what He wants you to do with your life. Then ask Him to give you vision for your future and to put a God-sized dream in your heart.
